What "Tally on Cloud" Actually Means

The phrase just means your TallyPrime installation and your Tally data files sit on a remote Windows server instead of on a computer in your office. When you want to work in Tally, you open a Remote Desktop connection (RDP) — the same technology that lets IT departments control computers remotely — and your screen shows you the Windows desktop on that remote server. You type, click, and work in Tally exactly as you would on a physical machine. When you close the RDP window, the server keeps running.

A few things to understand before we go further:

Tally is Windows-only. TallyPrime will not run on Linux. The remote server must be a Windows Server machine. Any provider selling you "Linux hosting for Tally" is selling you something that cannot work the way you think it will.

Setting Up TallyPrime on an Inservers Windows VPS: Step by Step

Buying managed plans for growing teams. The ₹599/month plan is easy to start with. The problem is that managed plan pricing scales per-user, and most firms grow. A firm that starts with two users and adds three more over a year finds itself paying nearly ₹2,999/month on a managed service when a VPS would cost less than half that.

Using a home computer as the "server." Some firms buy a desktop, install Tally on it, and leave it running in the corner as a shared Tally machine. This almost works — until there is a power cut, a Windows update that forces a restart, or the UPS fails.
